Statistics
These pages contain statistics and records for the League for the period from 1983 to date. The source is the records maintained by the League's Senior Recorder, Ian Pheby, who celebrated 25 years in post in 2007.
The general picture is one of decline: fewer competitions, fewer clubs, fewer teams, fewer players. This must reflect the decline in league chess in the UK generally over the last 25 years.

The Division 1 championship has been dominated by four teams over this period – Inland Revenue (7 titles), UNATS (6), GLCC (5) and Eastern Knights (5 including one shared title). The other winners were Home Office (2 including one shared title) and BT & Post Office (1).
The number of games defaulted has fallen, as the number of games played has fallen. However, the proportion of games defaulted has remained broadly stable at an average of 8.8% over the period with most years falling in a range of 7.0% to 11.0%.
The number of adjudications averaged about 70 a year until 1997 and then fell dramatically, averaging only 25 a year from 1998 onwards. A number of factors may have caused this: significant increases in adjudication fees; the ability to analyse games accurately with chess engines; and the availability of quickplay finishes.
