1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Bc5 3.Nf3 Nc6 4.d3 d6 5.c3 Bg4 6.h3 Bh5 7.b4 Bb6 8.a4 a6 9.Nbd2 Nge7 10.a5 Ba7 11.Qb3 Qd7 White's quiet opening has not caused Black any problems. Now White decides to expand on the kingside.
12.g4 Bg6 13.Nh4 O-O 14.Ndf3 Kh8 15.Nf5 Nxf5! White must have missed this move, which commits Black to sacrificing a piece for two pawns. The compensation is White's uncastled and slightly exposed king position.
16.exf5 Bxf5 17.gxf5 Qxf5 18.Qd1 e4! An excellent move which opens lines in the centre.
19.dxe4 Qxe4+ 20.Qe2 Rae8 21.Be3?
[White's only chance is to exchange queens:
21.Qxe4 Rxe4+ 22.Be2 Rfe8 23.Ra2 and Black will have to advance his kingside pawns to make progress.]
21...Bxe3 22.fxe3 Ne5 This wins a piece. The game is effectively over although White plays on for a few more moves.
23.Bb3 Nxf3+ 24.Kf2 Nh4 25.Rhg1 Qf5+ 26.Kg3 g5 27.Raf1 Qe5+ 28.Kg4 h6 29.Kh5 f5 30.Qc4 Qf6 White finally resigns as mate follows shortly.
